Experience a Kruger Park Safari in South Africas premier inland tourism destination. Viewing game and immersing yourself in the wilderness are some of the most sought-after and enriching experiences that South Africa has to offer. And there is no better way to intimately discover the bush than to walk through it. In the iconic Kruger National Park, 147 species of mammals exist more than any other African wildlife area alongside 517 bird species, 114 different types of reptile, and more.
The Kruger National Park is world-renowned for its vast savannahs and incredible biodiversity, home to large herds of plains game and high numbers of predators. Over the course of five days, you’ll explore this rich African reserve in an open safari vehicle, with opportunities to witness the Big Five, along with a wide range of bird species and smaller animals. Your experienced guide will share insights into the habits and behavior of the animals during daily morning and afternoon drives.
Included in this package is a night drive to spot nocturnal species such as cats, porcupines, aardvarks, and owls. You’ll also have the chance to join a guided morning walk with a park ranger, offering an unforgettable opportunity to experience wildlife on foot.
The Kruger Lowveld area
Kruger Lowveld is a region of natural wonders. From the Great Escarpment’s fragrant forests and cascading waterfalls to the majestic Blyde River Canyon—now renamed Molatse River Canyon—it offers sweeping views of the Lowveld. The southern reaches of Kruger National Park border the rolling cane fields of the Onderberg, and to the west, Barberton lies at the foot of some of the world’s oldest mountains. The area is also historically significant, with memories of the thrilling Gold Rush era.
Blyde River Canyon
The Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world and is part of the Blyde River Nature Reserve. The 29,000-hectare reserve is nestled against the Greater Drakensberg Escarpment and not only preserves the canyon but also other natural wonders of Mpumalanga. The Panorama Route offers spectacular landscapes and landmarks such as the Three Rondawels, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Lisbon Falls, Wonder View, God's Window, and The Pinnacle.
Game viewing
South Africa is renowned for its exceptional game viewing and commitment to conservation, with the Kruger National Park standing out as a prime example. The park boasts 147 mammal species—more than any other African wildlife area—along with 517 bird species, 114 types of reptiles (including 3,000 Nile crocodiles), 33 species of amphibians, and 50 types of fish. Kruger is also home to the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo, offering unparalleled wildlife experiences.
Birdwatching
The Kruger Lowveld region offers some of the most diverse habitats in South Africa, with close to 600 bird species. The area’s varied altitudes (with changes of up to 1,800 meters over short distances) allow birders to explore different environments. Spend the morning birding in the Afro-montane forest habitats of the escarpment, and in the afternoon, seek species that prefer the lower altitudes of the Lowveld.
Accommodation
Stay in two-bed chalets in SANParks Restcamps, offering comfortable lodging after a day of exploration.
Culture and history
The Kruger Lowveld is also rich in historical and cultural significance. Ancient Iron Age trade routes and African traditions span back centuries. The Gold Rushes of Pilgrim's Rest and Barberton predate the discovery of gold in Johannesburg, and visitors can encounter a contemporary Lowveld culture, steeped in the history of traditional cultures, pioneers, and fortune seekers. These stories connect visitors to the land and its people.
